Missing Ada Chidi is not a corp member “NYSC tells the public”
The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) says that a Miss Bianca Chidi, who is unknown, is not a member of the body, contrary to what is reported in some quarters.
Ms. Adenike Adeyemi, NYSC Director of Press and Public Relations, said this in a statement issued in Abuja on Friday.
Adeyemi was reacting to a newspaper publication with the title “NYSC Where is Miss Bianca Ada Chidi”.
“Management wishes to declare that, at the time of publishing this declaration, Bianca Chidi is not a member of the body, therefore, the scheme cannot be forced to produce said woman,” he said.
She said that the author of the report assumed that the woman was a member of the body, as she embarked on a journey from Ife, Osun state to Lagos state, and disappeared on route.
However, to set the record straight, the scheme had carried out diligent verification on its database, specifically for the Osun and Lagos states, and then spread to other states and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja , to determine the status of the missing lady.
“That name was found to not exist in the NYSC database,” Adeyemi said.
She said there was also no report by a missing member of the police force to the scheme related to the details presented by the writer, which was generally the protocol or a report by the chidi family to the scheme.
Adeyemi said it was imperative to record that the scheme, particularly the current administration, prioritizes the safety and well-being of the body members who remain its cardinal point.
“The body works in harmony with the police, the Department of State Services, the Nigerian Civil Defense and Security Corps, among others, to protect members of the body,” he said.
Adeyemi also expressed her sympathy for the plan to the victim and her family for their unfortunate evidence.
She said the administration would welcome inquiries as the scheme implements an open-door policy in its operations, especially regarding the well-being of body members.
